This 1927 Buick was our family's first car. We used street cars until then. I lived in Hammond, Ind., and my dad saw an ad in our newspaper that the city of Chicago wanted to clear all of its impounded cars at Navy Pier. So my dad went up there and bought our first car in 1932 for $150. I can remember going out with my dad and he got it up to 55 mph. I was scared to death. That car bounced like a grain wagon. Finally sold it (for $50), but not until I had a chance to drive it. We had it until 1940.
