'68 Chevrolet Corvette coupe
When this picture was taken in May 1968 in the Daniels Chevrolet predelivery lot in Colorado Springs, I was a junior at the U.S. Air Force Academy. We couldn't have cars until our senior year, which started June 5 when the Class of '68 graduated. So, most of us in the Class of '69 ordered our new cars to be able to take delivery on that day. The '68 Corvette was a total redesign and a real head-turner — I always got waves and thumbs-up when I drove it, and it drew admirers every time I parked it. With the base 327 V-8 4-speed, the car had plenty of power and maneuverability. I drove it my senior year and a year in pilot training, then sold it before I went to Vietnam. I've owned a number of Corvettes since then, both new and used, but this is my favorite.
