Out with RBC; in with PNC.

Friday is alphabet soup day in Tampa Bay banking as four RBC branches in the region become PNC Financial branches, giving Pittsburgh-based PNC a total of 23 branches in the region.

PNC agreed last June to buy the U.S. retail banking unit of RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) for $3.45 billion in cash and stock. But switching signs and computers awaited the deal's closing this week.

RBC has one branch apiece in Seminole, Tampa, Brandon and Sun City. Statewide, PNC is putting its moniker on about 80 RBC branches, pushing its Florida footprint up to nearly 200 branches.
