CLEARWATER — Brian Aungst Sr., director of state government affairs for Charter Communications, is retiring. Aungst, 63, worked for the cable provider through the many hands it changed for 30 years and may be best-known for serving two terms as mayor of Clearwater.

"It has been a great run for me and my family, and we have immensely enjoyed getting to know and work with so many wonderful people and organizations," Aungst said in an email announcing his retirement effective today.

His departure is due in large part to the health of his wife, Karen, and the care she needs, he said. The couple was honored last year as "Mr. and Mrs. Clearwater" in recognition of their service to the city.
