Lightning owner Jeff Vinik backs film company pursuing global blockbusters

TAMPA — Jeff Vinik's latest investment might be coming to a theater near you.

The Tampa Bay Lightning owner and entrepreneur invested in a new film company called Mandalay Endurance Media Ventures.

Puji Capital, a Hong Kong company investing in Mandalay Endurance Media Ventures, announced the investment in a Friday release. The film company will focus on movies with A-list stars and global appeal. It will also finance and distribute the movies.

Peter Guber, CEO of Mandalay Entertainment, and Steve Richards, a prominent film producer, will lead the company. Paul Schaeffer, COO of Mandalay Entertainment and Peter Strauss, who chaired Lionsgate Entertainment, are major investors.

Vink's financial contribution was not disclosed.
