Tampa is facing major landscape changes as projects like Water Street Tampa gear up. But despite the ongoing and upcoming major development, a new CommercialCafé study says, downtown Tampa has a big challenge with the least amount of vacant land of any of the country's top 25 metros.

"Urban sprawl has become a notable strain on residents, infrastructure and local budgets, and is far behind the sustainable, compact, walkable communities that today's Americans aspire to," the study said.

Dallas had the most vacant land (about 86 acres). Sacramento trailed Tampa for the second-lowest amount of vacant land (6.54 acres), just ahead of Buffalo (8.23 acres).
