The price of gas in the Tampa Bay area has fallen 7 cents per gallon in the last week, a steeper drop than state and national averages, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

The national average has fallen about 1 cent per gallon and Florida has dropped 4 cents per gallon over the past week.

Prices in Tampa Bay are averaging about $2.41 per gallon, which is about 27 cents more than this time last year.

"Oil prices remain volatile yet several dollars off recent highs," said GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan in a statement. "Gasoline prices remain in somewhat of a limbo as a result, with a mixed bag at pumps across the United States."

But DeHaan said while prices have remained in a middle ground, analysts are expecting a surge in the months ahead.

"Motorists aren't off the hook by any means yet," he said.
