After Hurricane Irma, Tina Breede conducted a kids yoga class at Metropolitan Ministries for some of their school-aged residents.
Breede, owner of Kidding Around Yoga with Tina, wanted to help provide stress relief for those affected by the storm.
"It's something that really speaks to my heart," she said. "The idea of helping kids that are in a level of stress that we may never understand, is really beautiful to me."
Breede, a former preschool teacher, recently started Kidding Around Yoga with Tina, which offers fun, engaging yoga classes for kids ages 4 to 12. Classes are held at Green Locus Yoga in Citrus Park, as well as in her home or at on-site locations. And she conducts preschool yoga classes at two local schools.
Breede also stages classes for Girl Scout troops and other organizations, as well as for birthday parties. Every class begins with meditation and discussing the mantra: Peace begins with me.
"Peace is what we bring from the inside to respond to the things that happen in our life," she said.
She pointed out that she's amazed by how young kids absorb this concept. In addition to being a fun activity that promotes flexibility and balance, Breede said yoga provides stress relief.
"I love to work with teenagers because I think there is a level of stress that exists now that perhaps didn't exist when we were teenagers," she said.
Currently, Breede is certified to teach yoga for ages 2 to 12, but she's beginning a 200-hour yoga course to become fully certified for all ages.
