Nordstrom Rack will add its third outlet to the Tampa Bay area on Sept. 3 with the grand opening of a store in Clearwater.
The discount version of the upscale Nordstrom department store will open in a 38,080-square-foot, two-level stand-alone building formerly occupied by Sears Auto Center at the northern entrance to Westfield Countryside mall.
The stores sell Nordstrom apparel, shoes and accessories at prices of up to 70 percent off. It's equivalent to Saks Fifth Avenue's Off 5th outlet brand.
Seattle-based Nordstrom operates more than 110 department stores, including one in Tampa's International Plaza that opened a decade ago, and more than 170 Rack stores. Tampa Bay's two other Rack stores are at Walter's Crossing on Dale Mabry Highway and at Lake Brandon Plaza in Brandon. Sarasota has its own Rack store across from the Mall at University Town Center.
The retail chain curtailed development of new full-line department stores after the recession and has been aggressively expanding the Rack brand ever since.
The new Nordstrom Rack is at 2435 State Road 580.
Nordstrom Rack is the second retailer to lease a space at the Countryside mall through its Sears anchor. Whole Foods Market opened its first Pinellas County grocery store in September in a space that was once the west entrance to the lower level of the Sears department store.
