Publix Supermarkets is investing more heavily in its online and app development by naming a new vice president to head this growing department.
The Lakeland-based grocery chain announced Monday that Erik Katenkamp has been promoted to vice president of omnichannel and application development.
Katenkamp was "instrumental" in launching the Publix grocery delivery collaboration with Instacart, which began last summer. In this new role, Katenkamp will focus on new online and app-based strategies for Publix, a release said.
"We are proud of the work Erik and his team have accomplished. With dedicated resources, we will be able to focus on the accelerated growth of our omnichannel strategy," said Todd Jones, CEO and president of Publix, in a statement. "Our online offerings are an extension of our in-store experience. We remain committed to providing exceptional service to our customers in whichever manner they choose to shop with us."
Katenkamp joined Publix in 1995 to work as an industrial engineer in manufacturing after working in the aerospace industry. He was promoted to business IT manager in 1999 and then business application delivery director in 2006. In 2013, Katenkamp was named vice president of information systems and application development. He's a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering.
