The Tampa Tribune confirmed late Thursday that it will stop publishing Hernando Today after Nov. 30. It will also cease publishing stories on hernandotoday.com.
Tribune Managing Editor Ken Koehn, in a self-bylined story published on tbo.com, said "a tough newspaper advertising climate made the printing and distribution of the twice-weekly newspaper cost-prohibitive."
The newspaper began as the free Green Sheet more than 30 years ago. The first edition of Hernando Today was published on Nov. 11, 1987.
On Wednesday, Tribune officials declined to return calls from the Tampa Bay Times to discuss the status of Hernando Today or other publications. Calls were directed to publisher Brian Burns, who could not be reached.
