Florida tourism surge continues

A record 54.1 million visitors came to the Sunshine State in the first half of this year, the most ever for a six-month period, according to a press release Wednesday from the state tourism agency.

Visit Florida also said 25.8 million visitors came to the state in the second quarter, an increase of 5.5 percent. The average number of direct travel-related jobs in the second quarter was 1.2 million, up 4.9 percent over the year.

Other second-quarter figures included: overseas visitors, 2.7 million; Canadian visitors, 1.2 million; domestic visitors, 21.9 million.
