Visit Florida campaign aims at dog lovers

The state's tourism agency has launched a social media campaign to showcase Florida as one of the most dog-friendly destinations in the world.

The Sunshine State offers pet-friendly hotels, dog parks, dog beaches and dog-friendly restaurants for tourists and residents who like to travel with their furry friends. To show off Florida's top dogs, the state's tourism marketing agency, Visit Florida, is asking canine enthusiasts to share photos and videos on social media of their pets in Florida using #DogsLoveFL. Visit Florida will collect social media posts on a website devoted to pet-friendly tourism spots in Florida.

In addition to the hashtag, Visit Florida is sponsoring a "Pet Pix Photo Contest" on the LIVE with Kelly and Michael show on ABC. One winner, to be announced on the show today, will score a trip to Florida valued at $10,000. The photo contest drew more than 5,000 entries.

"With more than 400 pounds of dog in my house, it's a great pleasure to live in such a dog-friendly state," Will Seccombe, president and CEO of Visit Florida, said in a statement. Seccombe owns two English mastiffs, Sugar and Louie, and an Australian cattle dog named Murphy.
