Worker dies in Clearwater construction accident, police say

The worker was struck by a backhoe at the site of a town home development.
A construction worker was struck by a backhoe and died Tuesday morning. The crews were clearing land for a town home development at 1895 Virginia Ave. Investigators have not released the worker's name, pending notification to family members. CLEARWATER — A construction worker was struck by a backhoe and died Tuesday morning.

According to Clearwater police, crews were clearing land for a town home development at 1895 Virginia Ave. Someone called authorities at 10:48 a.m.

Dunedin Fire Department paramedics pronounced the worker dead at the scene, police said. Investigators have not released the worker’s name, pending notification of family members.
