Coast Guard aids man injured by boat propeller on One Tree Island

CLEARWATER — A 48-year-old man injured Saturday by a boat propeller on One Tree Island was evacuated by a Coast Guard boat and taken to get medical help.

The Sector St. Petersburg base said it received a report at 3:50 p.m. from a witness who said he saw the man suffered a leg injury from the propeller of a recreational boat on the island, which is located on the intercoastal east of Sand Key, near Clearwater Beach.

The witness was helping the man but said he needed medical assistance.

A 29-foot response boat operating from Coast Guard Station Sand Key was sent to the area. The crew took the injured man to the Coast Guard station, where he was treated by paramedics and then taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg hospital.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident. No other information about the incident was released.
