Pinellas school employee shared 18,000 images of child porn, Clearwater police say

CLEARWATER — A 32-year-old Belleair Elementary School employee was arrested Friday on charges that he possessed and shared more than 18,000 images of child pornography, according to Clearwater police.

Charles Daniel Paul faces 20 counts of possession of child pornography. After his arrest he resigned from his job as the school’s food services manager, police said.

The investigation started when the Largo Police Department received a tip, then launched a joint investigation with the Clearwater Police Department. Investigators said they obtained a search warrant for Paul’s Clearwater home and searched it on Thursday.

Paul stored and shared more than 18,000 images that police said depicted children being sexually assaulted and abused.

Investigators did not say what evidence was found at his home. However, police do not believe any of the images involve children at Belleair Elementary School or in the local area.

Paul was booked into the Pinellas County jail, where he was being held late Friday in lieu of $400,000 bail.

The investigation is continuing and Paul could face more charges, according to Clearwater police. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Clearwater Police Department at 727-562-4242.
