CLEARWATER — A father and son were killed Friday evening when an SUV struck them while they were crossing Court Street, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

The crash took place just before 7:30 p.m., police said, as the pedestrians attempted to cross Court Street east of S Missouri Avenue.

Christopher Pryor, 37, was pushing his 59-year-old father George Pryor in a wheelchair, police said, while the father was pushing a shopping cart. They were not crossing the road at a crosswalk or a traffic signal, according to police.

Then the two were struck in the roadway by a Cadillac SUV driven by a 52-year-old Tampa woman.

Both men were taken to Morton Plant Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Both were later pronounced dead there.

The driver, whose name was not released by police, remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with investigators, according to Clearwater police. The eastbound lanes were closed during the investigation.

No other details about the crash or the investigation were released.
