St. Pete man fatally struck by car on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard in Clearwater

CLEARWATER — A St. Petersburg man died Thursday after a car struck him as he tried to cross Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, police said.

James Luczak, Jr. was trying to cross the westbound lanes of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard just east of the intersection with U.S. 19 shortly before 9 p.m. when a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette hit him, according to Clearwater police.

Luczak was taken to Morton Plant Hospital and died there later Thursday, police said.

Police identified the driver as Sam G. Short, 79, of Clearwater.

No other details were released.
