A 12-member jury found Benjamin Bishop, accused of fatally shooting his mother and her boyfriend, guilty of two counts of second-degree murder late Friday.
Bishop had been charged with first-degree murder. Defense attorneys argued during his trial this week that Bishop, 20, was not guilty by reason of insanity. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia before the murders.
On Oct. 28, 2012, Bishop grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun and fired eight times at his mother, Imari Shibata, and her boyfriend, Kelley Allen, inside their Oldsmar home at 205 Cedar Key Court.
He will be sentenced at a later date.
