LARGO — A 28-year-old man charged with fatally shooting his ex-boyfriend as he pleaded for his life in 2011 was found guilty of first-degree murder on Friday.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Jose Adame held the victim, Landy Martinez, 21, prisoner and tortured him for nearly two hours in his Lealman home before shooting him in the chest and the back of the head on Dec. 21, 2011. A cellphone video taken by Adame showed Martinez begging to be let go moments before he was killed.
During this trial this week, prosecutors argued that Martinez's pleas to "Jose" and "papi" in the video proved it was Adame who killed him. Defense attorneys admitted Adame was involved, but said it was a nephew who ultimately shot Martinez.
The trial started Monday. After the verdict, Adame, of Kenneth City, was then sentenced spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
