Hillsborough judge gets final reprimand from state Supreme Court for DUI case

TALLAHASSEE – In about seven minutes, Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Tracy Sheehan received a final reprimand from the Florida Supreme Court Wednesday for a July 2013 DUI charge in Tampa.

Sheehan, who presides over family law cases and has made a name as an advocate for children, did not contest the charge and has called the incident "a horrible decision." She was sentenced to one year of probation.

Chief Justice Jorge Labarga delivered the official reprimand as Sheehan stood before him and the other justices looked on. He called her conduct unbecoming to the judiciary but noted she had accepted full responsibility. Sheehan said later that she was ready to put the case behind her and looking forward to being back in court Thursday morning.

Sheehan, who was elected to the bench in 2007, pleaded guilty to the charge in August 2013. In addition to the probation, she was also sentenced to 50 hours of community service.
