HOLIDAY — A 39-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening after deputies say he kept a woman trapped in a closet for a week while abusing and threatening to kill her.
Michael Carver, of Holiday, faces charges of attempted murder, domestic aggravated assault, tampering with a witness and false imprisonment, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest report doesn’t say when the woman was first imprisoned, or at what address. The woman’s identity was not released by the Sheriff’s Office.
Carver refused to allow her to leave the home, the report said, and at times kept her prisoner inside a closet and barricading it with a dresser. He repeatedly struck her with his hands, feet, shoes and even a plastic baby bathtub, the report said. The woman tried to call 911 but Carver broke several phones to keep her from calling for help.
On Tuesday, the two got into an argument over her prescription medication, the report said, and Carver struck her in the right eye, causing it to swell and shut. The report said he also put her in a choke hold and told her “I will bury you!”
The woman was able to escape through a sliding glass door, hopped over a fence and ran to a neighbor’s house to call law enforcement, the report said. Carver was arrested at about 6 p.m. Tuesday at 3322 Kinard Lane.
He was being held Wednesday in the Pasco County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.
