A University of Florida student has been arrested in connection with a shooting Sunday night in a Walmart parking lot that sent three people to a Gainesville hospital.

According to a news release from the Gainesville Police Department, officers at 8:45 p.m. responded to a call from Jersey Mike’s Subs about a person being shot. Upon arriving, they encountered a 20-year-old white male who had sustained several gunshot wounds. An inspection of his vehicle showed several bullet holes on the driver’s side.

Detectives determined that four males had met Khalil Reed in the parking lot of the nearby Walmart (2900 SW 42nd Street) to purchase marijuana. At some point during the encounter, Reed pulled out a handgun and fired several shots into the vehicle, police said. Officers found a two-pound bag containing marijuana at the scene.

Reed, 24, was arrested and transported to the Alachua County Jail. He has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, according to police. As of Monday morning, he had not been charged for the shooting itself.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to UF Health. Two other gunshot victims also received treatment at the hospital, according to police.

“All those involved and injured (all non-life-threatening) were either taken into custody or to the hospital,” Shop at Butler posted on Facebook.
