SPRING HILL — A teenager faces a charge of making written threats to kill or injure after the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said he sent Instagram messages earlier this week about shooting someone at school.
The 14-year-old is a student at Challenger K-8, deputies said. The Tampa Bay Times is withholding his name because of his age.
The school resource deputy at Challenger was told Friday morning that a student arriving on a school bus may have a gun. After interviewing the student and witnesses, deputies found the student had sent an Instagram message earlier that morning that said: “I’m going to shoot him.”
“You no I love you bro but its gonna go down tomorrow I’m gonna shoot it up here," read another message, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The student admitted to sending the messages, deputies said. He did not have a gun and deputies determined he did not have access to one.
He was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center, then sent to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ocala.
