Tampa police investigating shooting that ‘does not appear to be random’

The shooting happened on the 5100 block of Matanzas Avenue, police said.

The Tampa Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man injured Saturday evening.

At about 5:15 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a house on the 5100 block of Matanzas Avenue, according to a news release from the Tampa Police Department.

They found a man who had been shot.

“The shooting does not appear to be random,” Tampa Police Department spokesman Steve Hegarty said in the release.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital. As of Sunday morning, Hegarty said the man’s injuries were “potentially life-threatening.”

The police investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
