Pedestrian killed while crossing State Road 574

A pedestrian was hit and killed early Wednesday morning while crossing State Road 574 in Dover, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to a news release, the pedestrian crossed in front of a 2007 four-door Toyota driven by Erika Lopez Boxtha at 2:50 a.m.

Boxtha, 19, of Plant City was driving east on State Road 574, near Bethelehem Road.

The pedestrian, walking northbound, stepped into the path of the Toyota.

The vehicle collided with the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Alcohol was not involved in the crash, according to the release. No charges are pending.
