ST. PETERSBURG ― A 12-year-old student was arrested after posting shooting threats against Tyrone Middle School on social media, according to St. Petersburg police.

The student posted a picture of a school building online, police said, and wrote that she planned to have it “shot up.”

Another student saw the post after it was shared on social media and alerted a school resource officer.

The student who wrote the post was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge of making a written threat to kill or do bodily injury.

Police spokeswoman Sandra Bentil said she could not say whether the student had the means to carry out the threat or which social media platforms were used.

The student was taken to the Pinellas County Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
