A 21-year-old Hudson man arrested on unrelated charges a week ago is now charged with homicide in connection to the death of a person found inside a burning car Nov. 1, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies charged Michael Joseph Psilakis Jr. Friday at the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center, where he has been held since Nov. 2 on other charges filed as investigators followed leads on the body found inside the car.
Psilakis was found driving a stolen car while carrying a stolen gun that day, soon after the car was found burning in the woods off Baillies Bluff Road near the Key Vista Nature Park. Deputies declined at the time to call him a suspect in the case.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release any information Friday about Psilakis’ connection to the death, saying in a written statement that details won’t be available until Tuesday.
“Due to the nature of the crime, the arrest report is not immediately available,” the statement said. “Significant redactions are needed to comply with state statutes.”
The Sheriff’s Office also is declining to release the name of the victim and the type of vehicle that was found, citing Marsy’s Law, a state constitutional amendment designed to protect crime victims.
