A Wesley Chapel man faces drug charges and charges of practicing dentistry without a license after Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies said he cleaned and extracted teeth in his home and gave patients non-prescribed antibiotics.

Jose Emilio Mas Fernandez was arrested Wednesday night after an undercover investigation, according to an arrest report. A deputy who posed as a patient said Mas Fernandez agreed to pull one of his teeth and give him antibiotics for a total of $170.

At Mas Fernandez’s home, the deputy said he saw professional dental equipment. The arrest report lists Mas Fernandez’s occupation as a dental assistant.

After being arrested, Mas Fernandez admitted to doing unlicensed dental work, deputies said. He told them the antibiotics came from Cuba.

He was taken to jail and later released on $5,000 bond.
