Pinellas man attacked neighbor with meat cleaver, deputies say

The neighbor was calling 911 after witnessing him committing a domestic battery, deputies said.

A Pinellas County man was arrested Wednesday after deputies said he used a meat cleaver to attack a neighbor who was calling 911 to report a domestic battery.

Kelsey Joseph Aromola, 27, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, attempted burglary of an occupied structure and domestic battery. Jail records list a Dunedin address for Aromola, though the address of where the incident occurred was redacted from arrest affidavits.

According to those reports, a man witnessed Aromola committing a domestic battery at about 2 a.m. Wednesday and began dialing 911. Aromola saw this occurring, came to the man’s door while carrying a meat cleaver, tried to kick the door down and said “I’m going to kill you,” reports state.

Deputies responded to the scene and saw Aromola with the meat cleaver. He was taken into custody and was being held at the Pinellas County jail Thursday. Bail was set at $50,000, court records show.

Records show Aromola has a criminal history that includes charges of possession and sale of drugs, domestic battery and assault, petty theft, grand theft auto, leaving the scene of a crash, trespassing and driving with a suspended license.
