Pinellas man caused crash that sent boat flying. It’s his fourth DUI, troopers say.

A Pinellas County man caused an auto crash on Park Boulevard on Saturday night that caused a boat to go flying off a trailer and closed the road for five hours, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Sylvester Manning, 66, of Seminole, was arrested on DUI charges after the crash. Troopers noted in arrest reports and a news release that Manning has faced three previous DUI charges — two in March 2015 in Pasco County and another in 1990 in Pinellas County.

Troopers said the crash Saturday occurred about 9:30 p.m. at Park Boulevard and 131st Street North.

Manning was driving a 2020 Nissan Rogue west on Park as a 2018 GMC Sierra driven by Victor Barauskis, 48, of Seminole, was headed east approaching 131st with a green signal. Troopers said Manning didn’t see a flashing left-turn arrow and turned in front of Barauskis, who was pulling a trailer and a 29-foot boat.

The vehicles collided, which sent the boat flying onto the roadway, where it came to rest upside down. “A large amount of fuel spilled,” troopers noted in an arrest report.

Manning suffered minor injuries. Barauskis and his two passengers were not injured.

Troopers said Manning told them he had “two or three” glasses of wine before driving. He refused to provide a blood or breath sample, but troopers said his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and watery, his balance was poor and he did poorly on field sobriety tests.

Manning was booked into the Pinellas County jail on charges of DUI and DUI with property damage. He was later released after posting $6,000 bail. He also was cited for failure to yield and not having a seat belt.
