Deputies are investigating after an ATM exploded at a Regions Bank in Valrico this weekend.

Sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning, suspects spray painted over the lenses of surveillance cameras at the Regions Bank located at 3522 Bell Shoals Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The drive-up ATM located on the bank building’s exterior later “exploded,” exposing the inside of the machine, deputies said.

It’s unclear how much money was stolen from the ATM. Officials with the FBI and ATF responded to the scene, along with sheriff’s deputies. A description of the suspect is not “presently available,” deputies said.

It’s unclear if this ATM explosion is related to a similar incident that occurred on Dec. 22 on Linebaugh Avenue in Tampa. Deputies say it’s “premature to conclude if the two are connected.” Another ATM explosion was reported on Nov. 4 at a BB&T Bank in Oldsmar. This is an ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.
