A 9-year-old Ocala boy was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder after he stabbed his sister with a knife Monday afternoon.
According to the Ocala Star-Banner, police were called to the scene of a stabbing around 4 p.m. on Monday. Police found a 5-year-old girl with multiple stab wounds. The boy, who fled the scene after being disarmed by his mother, surrendered to police when they arrived.
After being detained, the boy told detectives that his sister, who was in roller skates, bent over to show him something when he grabbed her by the back of the neck. The boy told detectives that his motive for the crime was his desire to go outside and that he wanted his sister to die. The boy said he couldn’t remove the thought from his head, authorities said.
Police were called to Berkley Pointe Apartments after receiving a 911 call. According to the Star Banner, the mother had left the home to get candy from a neighbor. When the mother reentered the home, she found her son stabbing her daughter. The mother said her son fled after she disarmed him and picked up the victim, authorities said.
The girl was taken by helicopter to University of Florida Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. According to authorities, the girl was alert and and responsive prior to her arrival at the hospital.
The boy is being held without bail.
