St. Petersburg police are searching for a driver who hit and killed a 24-year-old motorcyclist Saturday night.

A driver in an older, faded red Honda or Hyundai was attempting to turn from westbound traffic on 5th Avenue South onto the southbound lane of 37th Street South at around 7:40 p.m., police said.

Brendan Markeith Hawkins, on a 2017 Suzuki motorcycle, hit the back right side of the car and slid on 5th Avenue South. He was going above the speed limit, police said.

Hawkins was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said. He died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

The driver of the car left the scene.

Police ask anyone with information to call the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893-7780 or send an anonymous tip by texting “SPPD” and the tip to TIP-411.
