A dental assistant at a Land O’ Lakes oral surgery practice faces a sexual battery charge after Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies said he assaulted an 18-year-old patient after giving her laughing gas in preparation for a wisdom tooth removal.
Edwin Alvis, 37, was arrested Thursday, according to an arrest report. Deputies said the Hillsborough County resident assaulted the woman on Dec. 6 at the Tampa Bay Institute of Oral Surgery and Dental Implants.
Alvis’s DNA matched samples taken from the victim’s body, deputies said. He denied the accusations in multiple interviews with deputies, according to the arrest report.
Public records show that Alvis has no criminal history in Florida prior to his arrest Thursday. Dental assistants are not required to be licensed in Florida.
