A man visiting from Jacksonville was arrested after police found him passed out in a car and the 2-year-old in his care home alone, according to the Tarpon Springs Police Department.

Nicholaus A. Johnson, 39, was in town visiting family and staying in Tarpon Springs. His girlfriend, also of Jacksonville, had gone back on Saturday and left Johnson with her daughter.

But early Sunday morning, sheriff’s deputies found Johnson passed out in his car at 4900 U.S. Alt 19. When they called his girlfriend, she asked where her daughter was.

Tarpon Springs police went to the home and found the girl sleeping inside, in good health. Nobody else was home.

Police say they do not know how long the girl was home alone for.

The Department of Children and Families is conducting an investigation. The mother of the child drove into town to get custody. Johnson was arrested on charges of child neglect and taken to jail.
