RIVERVIEW — A dispute in a hospital parking lot Friday resulted in one man shooting another, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place at about noon at St. Joseph’s Hospital South at 6901 Simmons Loop.

Two men, ages 35 and 27, who had both been treated at the hospital earlier had an altercation in the parking lot, deputies said. Then the 27-year-old shot the 35-year-old, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The wounded man was treated at the hospital, then taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa about 30 minutes away because of the “severity” of his injuries, deputies said. His condition was not known.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of either man involved in the shooting. Deputies took possession of the weapon used in the shooting and said the 27-year-old is cooperating with the investigation.

There was no threat to the hospital, patients or staff, deputies said.
