BROOKSVILLE — The thieves came in the middle of the night and cut through a fence, according to a Facebook post. They took nearly everything: Generators and weed eaters and gas cans, dog collars and cat food, event tents and toilet paper.

All told, the Humane Society of the Nature Coast lost 90 percent of its supplies in the Sunday night break-in, according to a Monday afternoon post.

The organization, located on Wiscon Road near Brooksville, said the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was investigating and that it had security footage. The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for more information.

In the Facebook post, the Humane Society asked for drop-off donations and set up a fundraiser. As of about 10 a.m. Tuesday, that fundraiser had already raised nearly $20,000.
