Spencer A. Brush, a third grade teacher at Watergrass Elementary School in Pasco County, faces 10 charges of child pornography possession after being arrested Friday.

According to a Pasco Sheriff’s Office report, Brush, 47, had numerous images on his personal cellphone of children “clearly under the age of 18” engaging in sex acts. He allowed officers to review his phone as part of an ongoing investigation, the report states, and acknowledged he had been accessing the materials “for the last several years.”

The photos and videos did not appear to include children from his class or his school, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Amanda Hunter said.

School district spokesman Steve Hegarty said the district also had not received any evidence that Watergrass Elementary students were involved.

Principal Scott Mitchell did notify parents, staff and the third grade team of the arrest on Saturday morning, Hegarty said, shortly after learning of Brush’s arrest.

Mitchell also secured Brush’s resignation, Hegarty said.

Brush began working for the Pasco County school district in November 2014. He had no previous disciplinary actions in his personnel file, Hegarty said.

Calls to his phone number went directly to voice mail.
