A 6-year-old girl was seriously hurt Wednesday night when she was hit by a motorcyclist who left the scene.
The crash occurred about 10:30 p.m. as the girl crossed Gandy Boulevard from an apartment complex in the 10600 block, which is in the general area of Derby Lane.
After the crash, the westbound motorcyclist left the scene. A piece of the motorcycle broke off and troopers released a photo of that piece Thursday in a news release.
The girl suffered serious injuries.
The highway patrol is not naming the girl because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, which is designed to protect crime victims.
Troopers ask anyone with information to call them at 813-558-1800 or Crime Stoppers.
Troopers did not say in a news release whether the girl was accompanied by an adult or adults when she was hit or if she was walking alone or with other children. An FHP spokesman said he was working to answer that question.
