A former Hillsborough County school bus driver was arrested Wednesday morning on charges that he arranged to sexually batter a 14-year-old girl, deputies said.
But he wasn’t meeting a real girl: It was an undercover detective posing as a teen online, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Hector Cabrera, 32, of Tampa, faces charges of traveling to meet a minor after using computer services or devices to solicit certain illegal acts, use of computer services to solicit certain illegal acts and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.
The undercover detective posing as the teen communicated with Cabrera on social media on Tuesday, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Then on Wednesday, they exchanged more messages and this time agreed to meet at 1 p.m. that day.
When Cabrera arrived at the location he was arrested, deputies say.
Cabrera worked as a school bus driver for the school district from 2015-18. Then he went to work for the Hillsborough County Clerk of the Circuit Court’s office. He was booked into the county jail, where he was being held early Thursday in lieu of $11,500 bail.
