Arrest made in shooting death of Florida wildlife officer

Deputies said Officer Julian Keen was shot to death after he followed a driver who had left the scene of a crash. He was off duty at the time.

Authorities have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of an off-duty Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer, according to published reports out of south central Florida.

WINK News reported that LaBelle resident Eliceo Hernandez faces a charge of negligent homicide in the death of FWC Officer Julian Keen Jr., 30.

Officials with the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office told local media that Keen was off duty when he saw Hernandez driving recklessly and leaving the scene of a crash. Keen followed and eventually both he and Hernandez stopped. There was a confrontation and Keen was shot, according to reports.

Two others who were detained by deputies do not face charges, WINK News reported.
