The call came in just after 1 a.m. Saturday. Shots were fired at the intersection of N 15th Street at E 26th Avenue in Tampa, near the Ybor Grocery.

A victim was possibly down.

When Tampa police officers arrived, they reported finding the intersection blocked in all four directions by a large crowd of people. As they looked for a victim, the group grew “aggressive,” according to the police department’s public information officer.

And as they took one person into custody, several in the gathering jumped onto a police car and caused minor damage. The crowd also surrounded the officers and threw alcoholic drinks and bottles at them.

One officer was hit on the left side of the head, which caused swelling and a small cut. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released, according to the department. Another officer was struck in the back of the head and on his back.

No shooting victim was ever located.
