Driver injured in shooting on I-4 at Hillsborough exit, troopers say

The man heard the sound of gunshots Saturday as his car was struck by six bullets, from the trunk to the driver’s door. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

TAMPA — A 35-year-old Tampa man was struck and injured by bullets when a car pulled up next to his car on Interstate 4 at the Hillsborough Avenue exit and opened fire, troopers said.

The incident occurred about 2:20 p.m. Saturday as the man was headed west on I-4 in his Toyota sedan and saw a black Hyundai sedan pull up to the left side of his car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The man heard the sound of gunshots as his car was struck by six bullets, from the trunk to the driver’s door.  He suffered non-life-threatening injuries from bullet fragments to the left side and chest area. He was taken to a hospital.

The Hyundai continued west on I-4. There were three men inside, he told troopers.
