The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a man who troopers say pushed his wife in front of a semi on Interstate 75 in Pasco County.
Troopers have obtained an arrest warrant for Joey Edward Morgan, 45, of Summerfield, which is in Marion County. The warrant charges Morgan with attempted murder.
The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Mile Post 282 in the southbound lanes.
Troopers said Morgan’s wife was driving a Dodge Ram pickup pulling a utility trailer. Morgan was a passenger in the pickup.
A tire blew out on the pickup and Morgan “yanked the steering wheel to the right, nearly causing a full loss of control, before the victim was able to come to a stop along the outside shoulder of the roadway,” troopers said in a news release.
Morgan and his wife, who troopers did not name in the release, began to argue. He got out of the pickup, walked to the driver’s side door and yanked her out by her hair, troopers said.
Morgan headbutted his wife, punched her several times and pushed her into the path of a tractor-trailer, “which had to take evasive action to avoid colliding with the victim,” troopers said.
Troopers said that throughout the episode Morgan threatened to kill his wife.
Morgan then ran into the woods. Troopers and Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies searched for Morgan but could not find him.
Troopers later obtained a warrant for Morgan’s arrest on the attempted murder charge.
