One wounded in drive-by shooting at Tarpon Springs basketball court, police say

TARPON SPRINGS — One person was wounded Wednesday in a drive-by shooting that targeted a group playing basketball at Dorsett Park, police say.

The incident took place about 3:42 p.m. at the park at 500 E. Harrison St. The shooting victim was watching a game taking place at the basketball court there, according to Tarpon Springs police.

Then a vehicle approached the park. Those inside the vehicle started firing their weapons at those on the court, police said.

A Tarpon Springs officer at the nearby Cops 'n Kids Youth Center reported via radio that he heard several gunshots fired and saw several vehicles quickly leaving the park.

The gunshot victim was driven to AdventHealth North Pinellas hospital, police said. The agency did not release the name of the gunshot victim, who is expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing and no other details were released.
