A Temple Terrace woman has been arrested on manslaughter and homicide charges in connection with a Christmas Eve crash in Pinellas County that killed a 47-year-old man.
Shaquira Agosto, 24, was arrested Friday on charges of DUI-manslaughter, vehicular homicide and driving with a suspended or revoked license that resulted in death. She was being booked at the Pinellas County jail Friday evening and a bail amount had not yet been set, records showed.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Agosto was driving a sport utility vehicle west on Belleair Road, near South Lake Avenue, and the man was driving a pickup truck east just after 8 p.m. Dec. 24 when the crash occurred.
Troopers said Agosto “failed to maintain control” of her SUV and entered the eastbound lane, where she collided nearly head-on with the pickup. The man in the truck, who is from Clearwater, was taken to a hospital and later died, troopers said.
Agosto suffered serious injuries, troopers reported.
The highway patrol did not release the man’s name due to the department’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to Florida’s constitution that’s meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records laws.
