CLEARWATER — A man fatally stabbed in a bar early Tuesday morning was trying to break up a fight as a “peacemaker,” Clearwater police said Wednesday. Two people involved in the brawl have been arrested and police are seeking a third man, who they say wielded the knife, on a murder charge.

Police have not said how the fight began inside the Sunset Lounge at 2558 Sunset Point Road. But at some point, 33-year-old Samir Douti intervened and Jarvis Miles, 34, stabbed him, police said.

Officers responded to the bar just before 3 a.m. Tuesday and found Douti with at least one stab wound. He died at a hospital less than an hour later.

Miles is still at large. Police obtained a warrant for his arrest on a second-degree murder charge.

Court records show Miles has been arrested on a dozen other felony charges in the past 16 years, including battery, domestic battery, grand theft, driving with a suspended license and drug possession. He was most recently convicted in 2019 on a battery charge, sentenced to 270 days in county jail and released last June.

In 2008, state records show, Miles was sentenced to 2½ years in state prison after being convicted of grand theft and burglary. He was released in 2010.

Christopher Pittman, 31, and Shannon Carias, 43, were also arrested in the Sunset Lounge fight. Pittman pointed a gun at another man and Carias hit a woman in the head with a pool stick, police said.

Pittman faces a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm and Carias faces a charge of aggravated battery. Neither has faced felony charges in Pinellas County before, court records show, and neither appears in state prison records.

Pittman is being held in the Pinellas County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, jail records show. Carias has not appeared in jail booking records.

Police asked that anyone with information on Miles’ whereabouts call them at 727-562-4242.
