ST. PETERSBURG — An 85-year-old St. Petersburg woman died from injuries she received when a pickup truck hit her while she was crossing a downtown street at a crosswalk in her motorized wheelchair, St. Petersburg police said.
The driver of the pickup was arrested on a charge of driving without a license and may face other charges.
Elaine Carrigan had the green light Friday as she was crossing Fourth Avenue North near First Street North close to her home in Presbyterian Towers. The crash occurred as Sulplicio Lopez Martinez, 31, was headed south in a pickup on First Street North, turning left onto Fourth Avenue North.
Carrigan was taken to a hospital and died from her injuries Tuesday, police said.
