HUDSON — A 33-year-old Hudson man was struck by a pickup truck and killed early Thursday while walking in the roadway along U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the pickup fled the scene of the 2:25 a.m. crash and was arrested later in Hernando County on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, the Highway Patrol said.

The driver, Andres Gallo, 28, of Brooksville, was headed north in the outside lane of U.S. 19 approaching the Krag Drive intersection when he hit the man as he walked north.

The victim was taken to a hospital. where he died.

The Highway Patrol did not release his name because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
